Privacy Policy
Dev Box Cleaner is built to respect your privacy. This page explains what data we handle — on this website and inside the app — and why. The short version: the app never reads the contents of your files, and we collect the minimum needed to sell licenses and keep the product working.
The app
- Your files stay yours. Dev Box Cleaner scans folder sizes locally on your Mac. File names, contents and scan results never leave your device.
- License activation. When you activate a license, the app sends your license key and an anonymous, one-way hashed device identifier to our server to enforce the 2-Mac seat limit. We cannot derive your hardware serial from this hash.
- Updates. The app checks our server (devboxcleaner.com) for new versions via the standard Sparkle framework. No personal data is sent with these checks.
- Anonymous usage statistics. The app can send anonymous feature counters to our own server (no third parties): which features were used and how often, plus the app and macOS version. File names, paths, email addresses and hardware identifiers are never sent. The identifier is a random number generated by the app — not derived from your device — and is regenerated if you toggle the setting. You can turn this off any time in the app's Settings (⌘,); in the EU/EEA, UK and Switzerland it is off by default. Data is kept for at most 180 days.
Purchases
Payments are processed by Stripe; your card details go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers. We receive and store your email address and license key so we can deliver, recover and support your license. License emails are sent via Resend.
This website
We use Google Analytics and Google Ads measurement to understand how the site is used and how our ads perform. If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, these are switched off until you accept them in the cookie banner. Elsewhere they are on by default — and choosing "Essential only" in the banner turns them off at any time. The site is served through Cloudflare, which processes IP addresses to provide security and delivery.
On the same basis, we use Microsoft Clarity to record anonymised session replays and heatmaps — mouse movement, clicks and scrolling — so we can see where the site confuses people and fix it. Text you type is masked and never recorded, and we never use these recordings to identify you. Choosing "Essential only" disables Clarity entirely.
Your rights
You can ask us to show or delete the data we hold about you (your email and license records) at any time. Email us at [email protected] — we answer fast.
